Jeremy Wimpey, PhD. (Applied Trails Research, LLC’s Principal) is an outdoor enthusiast with years of GIS and GPS experience. Jeremy’s unique combination experience—a trail users, academic, and professional—help bring a holistic approach to solving GIS challenges. An elite trail runner and mountain biker, Jeremy has spent thousands of hours on trails around the world and understands trail-user needs from the perspective of a trail user. His academic background, including a Doctorate in Geospatial Environmental Analysis from Virginia Tech, brings a background in science and research to each challenge and a facts-first approach to problem solving.

An associate member of the Professional Trailbuilder’s Association (PTBA), Jeremy has collaborated with and provided professional services for PTBA member companies, research institutions, and land managers. Jeremy has had numerous works published in academic journals and popular publications and has focused much effort toward public education of trail users, as an author, lecturer, and volunteer. A native of Virginia, Jeremy received his BS and MS in Geography at James Madison University.
